Welcome to the HBV Blog

The Halton Black Voices (HBV) Blog is a space dedicated to sharing stories, insights, and initiatives that uplift and amplify the voices of Black communities across Halton. Here, we highlight the work we’re doing to promote equity, celebrate culture, and create opportunities for meaningful change.

From grassroots initiatives to youth empowerment programs, from community events to advocacy efforts, this blog is where we document our journey and invite you to be part of it. We believe that storytelling is a powerful tool for connection, education, and empowerment—and through these posts, we aim to inform, inspire, and engage our community.

Whether you’re a parent, student, ally, educator, or community leader, we hope this space encourages you to learn, share, and take action alongside us. Together, we can continue building a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

Land Acknowledgement

Halton Region is located within the traditional territories of the Anishnaabek, Haudenosaunee, Attawandarin, and the Métis. It is home to many other Indigenous nations from across the lands, including the enduring presence of Afro-Indigenous Peoples. We live on stolen land. We acknowledge the genocide and racism that has plagued Turtle Island for hundreds of years. We recognized and honour the real history and beauty of Mother Earth and its Indigenous Peoples. We fully support returning the land back to its First Peoples to restore balance and harmony, because what has been done with it is disgraceful and unsustainable. Our deepest thanks to the Mississaugas of the Credit for being caretakers of this territory.
