A Community Conversation with Dalton Higgins

Halton Black Voices is proud to welcome Dalton Higgins — Toronto-based author, journalist, cultural critic, and educator — for a special community event celebrating basketball, storytelling, and Black excellence.

Centered around Dalton’s new book, 101 Fascinating Basketball Facts, this engaging and interactive evening will explore basketball as more than just a sport. Through stories, history, and cultural insight, Dalton will take participants on a journey that connects the game to global culture, media, education, and Black excellence across generations.

With a background that spans sports journalism, book authorship, media production, and post-secondary teaching at Toronto Metropolitan University, Dalton brings a dynamic and accessible approach that resonates with youth, families, and lifelong learners alike. Participants can expect thoughtful conversation, surprising facts, and meaningful dialogue that bridges sports, literacy, and leadership.

Speaker Highlights:

  • Author of 101 Fascinating Basketball Facts (Dundurn Press), an engaging and accessible book that explores basketball through history, culture, and global impact

  • Author of Drake’s book: Practice Makes Perfect, one of the earliest books to document Drake’s rise and cultural influence
